TULLA

Tulla is a town located near Ennis in County Clare, Ireland. Tulla is the commercial centre for Tulla parish and the surrounding area.

The church was built around six hundred and twenty A.D. by Mochuille, and the town developed it's town charter in the thirteenth century.

Tulla developed around St. Mochulla's monastery, and the area was called Tulach na n-easpoc.

The area was called 'Tullach' among the parish churches of the diocese of Killaloe back in thirteen hundred and two.

In thirteen fourteen, Murchad O'Brien and the Clan Thoirdhealbhaigh attacked East Clare, and Tulach's church was plundered and many items were damaged.

Tulla's parish population was about nine thousand back in eighteen forty five, but by eighteen fifty one the population shrunk to just over six and a half thousand.
