SHANNON WALKS
There are many popular walks in and around the Shannon area. Three of the most popular are The Burren walk, The Slieve Felim walk and The lough Derg walk.
The Burren walk:- The Burren is famous worldwide for it's archaeological and geological features, and also the magnificent flora. This rough terrain is one of the most fascinating landscapes of Ireland. The Cliffs of Moher and the Aran Islands are two of the most popular tourist attractions. The route passes through the towns of Ballyvaughan, and Doolin and reaches the car par of the Cliffs of Moher. The total distance is approximately thirty six kilometres (twenty two and a half miles).
The Slieve Felim walk:- This walking starts close to Glestal Abbey and passes close to Mauher Slieve Hills. This route provides many scenic views along the way, and the walker can see parts of Clare, Limerick and Tipperary counties. The most scenic parts of the route are when walking along from Murroe to Silvermines. The route starts from Murroe and passes through Toor and Silvermines. The total distance is about thirty kilometres (nineteen miles).
The Lough Derg Walk:- Lough Derg is one of largest lakes on the River Shannon. The route follows the river to the mouth at the city of Limerick. after passing through the Killaloe and Ballina towns, you will experience fantastic views along the Eastern side of Lough derg. The route starts at Limerick and passes through O'Briens's Bridge, Killaloe and Dromineer. The total distance is about fifty two kilometres (thirty two miles).
