SHANNON TOWN GUIDE
The town of Shannon is the 2nd largest town in County Clare. It is situated near the N18 National Primary Route from Ennis to Limerick.
Shannon town is lies on the river Shannon, and is bordered on the West by Shannon Free Zone and Shannon Airport. To the North the town is bordered by the airport flight path and Industrial Development buildings.
Shannon is a major industrial area, as well as being the site of the first duty free airport in the world. Shannon is seen as a significant residential, industrial, and commercial development.
The population of Shannon is approximately ten thousand according to a previous Census, which reflected a growth rate ofover 5 percent in the last 5 years.
Shannon region is houses second largest industrial base next to Dublin. The larger companies based in Shannon, include Molex, Intel, Avocent, Shannon Aerospace and Element 6.
There are about twelve thousand people employed in Shannon Airport , Shannon Town, and the Industrial Zones.
Shannon is still only a recently built town (built in the sixties), but still has a strong community spirit, hence the number of community groups in the town.
Shannon has excellent community facilities, with a golf course and a swimming and leisure complex.
Shannon is a great tourist location base, and attractions such as Knappogue and Bunratty Castle are a short drive away.
The famous Cliffs of Moher is only about a fifty minutes drive away, with a shopping/retail complex in the town centre. There are also holiday complex's such as Killaloe, Kilkee and Lahinch about forty minutes away.
