SHANNON CAVE

Shannon Cave is located in County Cavan in the Republic of Ireland and County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland. The cave is made up of a main stream flowing to a sump, which is the original source of the river.

The river has been traced (using dye) to Shannon Pot, which is located about 2km West of the sump.

The cave is constantly being explored, therefore it is still not clear about the sinks for the many inlets in the cave.

The stream passage of Shannon cave is very large, and has several fossil passages which are no longer used by the stream.

The cave has also many formations of calcite, with also a lot of helicites present.

The entrance of the cave was discovered in County Fermanagh, but most of the cave lies beneath County Cavan. Originally.

The cave entrance was in County Cavan, but access to the cave from this entrance is no longer possible.

Shannon cave was found back in August nineteen eighty, by the Reyfad Group members.
