GALWAY CITY GUIDE
Galway is located on the West coast of Southern Ireland. It is one of the largest and the fastest-growing cities in Ireland. Galway is also the 3rd largest in the Republic of Ireland.
The city takes its name from the River Corrib (Gaillimh river) that formed
the Western boundary of an early settlement.
The climate of Galway, has an all year-round moist, mild, and temperate weather conditions, due to the prevailing winds of the North Atlantic Current.
Galway city has a very good local economy, with complementary business sectors, including tourism, retail and manufacturing industry.
Galway is also known as Ireland's Cultural Heart, and is renowned for its vibrant lifestyle and many festivals, celebrations and events.
Every year in the month of July, Galway hosts the Galway Arts Festival which is famous for its Macnas parade.
Recently, there were 10 festival companies, 3 dance organisations, a couple of film organisations, two Irish language organisations, twelve theatre companies, two visual arts groups and 4 writers' groups based in Galway city.
There were also over fifty venues for events, the majority were specialised for a specialist field, though ten were called multiple event venues.
Eyre Square is one of the major squares in Galway city, with John F. Kennedy Park, in the middle of the city; and Spanish Parade, near the Spanish Arch.
Galway has been ranked in the top fifty best tourist destination in the world, in the top twenty in Europe and second in Ireland

Galway is the ideal base for trips throughout western Ireland. Renting a car is a good way to see attractions in the surrounding area.
There are also tours of The Burren, the Cliffs of Moher, and Connemara, available at the tourist office.
Many places around the city and at the tourist office sell ferry tickets to the Aran Islands, which is well worth a visit..
An ideal place for hitchhikers to catch rides is near the Galway Shopping Centre, north of the city centre.
There are many roundabouts closeby, so it should be easy to pick the road heading in the same direction as you are.

over eleven thousand students, with students from over forty countries. Nearly
