CRATLOE
Cratloe is a village located in County Clare, Ireland. It lies between Shannon and Limerick on the R462 road. The village is bounded to the South by the estuary of the river Shannon.
The village of Cratloe has many ruined tower houses and castles, many of which were said to be built by the MacNamara Clan.
The most famous castle is Cratloemoyle Castle. The castle lies to the North of the N18 major road on the way to Limerick.
Castle Donnell (Cratloemore) lies to the South of the village, on the banks of the River Shannon, but there is only a small amount of the ruin left.
The ruins of Ballintlea Castle lies in a farmyard on the western slopes of Woodcock Hill, near Sixmilebridge.
The Lourdes Grotto is located near St. John's Church, which has excellent views of the locality.
The Grotto was organised by Rev. John Wallace back in nineteen twenty eight, with the aid of local parishioners.
They Parishioners worked hard without any payment, until the project was finished in time for the nineteen thirty two Eucharistic Congress.
