The busy road sees more than seven thousand vehicles passing through the village each day.
Balla is well known for it's round tower and is a popular tourist attraction.
The town used to have a large shop and market centre,but has fell into decline in recent years.
Balla no longer has a train station, but has had a bit of a revival as a commute town, for residents who work in the nearby Castlebar.
